What is a self-employed person?

Literally, ZZP stands for Zelfstandige Zonder Personeel. A self-employed person is someone who, as a self-employed person with his own company, works for a boss. This self-employed person is not on the employer’s payroll. In this employment contract, the employer is the principal and the self-employed person carries out the assignments.
In the past, people sometimes spoke of a freelancer or self-employed person, which is the same as a zzp.

Why should I become self-employed?

As a self-employed person, you are no longer employed by your employer. You are self-employed, meaning you decide how much you work, what your hourly rate is and where you work. As a self-employed person, it is even possible to have several employers/clients. In the Netherlands, about 1.5 million people currently work as self-employed.
We have seen a surge in this area in recent years. So more and more people are discovering the benefits and more and more employers are open to self-employment.
So plenty of good reasons to get started as a self-employed person!

What do I have to comply with to work in the Netherlands?

In principle, we only need a BSN number, which you have if you have Polish nationality. In addition, it is a huge advantage if you have your own car and driving license. This makes it easier for us to provide you with suitable employers.

I am not a self-employed person but I would like to become one.

We have written a page about becoming a self-employed worker in the construction industry.
Here we have summarized all the information for you.
